Waterfall/Area 81 Racing’s Tim Pierce posted two more wins last weekend at Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah, Georgia. The weather was perfect for racing with clear skies, a light breeze, and daytime temperatures in the low 80s. It was a stark contrast to the race last year which featured damaging winds, heavy rain, and impressive lightning. The foul weather gear remained in the trailer and the only question on the minds of the Car 18 crew was whether to use super soft or medium tires. Tim qualified 2nd in class and 3rd overall on Saturday, but roared back to 1st in class and 2nd overall during the race. On Sunday he qualified 1st in class and 4th overall but finished the race 2nd overall while leading the class from start to finish.
Tim Pierce, Car 18 – “It has been awhile since I raced here, so I wanted to use the first qualifying session to get reacquainted with the track. We made some changes after the session that would allow me to accelerate earlier and carry more speed in the turns. It really helped because I picked up over a second during the race. The competitor who started ahead of me built a decent lead but was slowed by lapped traffic halfway through the race. I was able to close the gap and pass him on the straight. He pressed for the remainder of the race but I was able to hold him off. I could feel that I was losing power below 8000 RPM at the end and we ended up replacing clogged injectors in the afternoon. The 18 car was back to full power on Sunday and we had a clean, smooth race.
My good friends Jim Davis and Nate Field shared crew chief duties in the absence of my dad. They did a wonderful job and I couldn’t have made it to the top of the podium without them.”
The next stop of the 2016 schedule is the Memorial Monster Double SARRC on May 28th and 29th at Carolina Motorsports Park near Camden, South Carolina.
