Oct. 21, 2012 – Area 81 Racing / Waterfall Takes 2nd and 4th at Goblins Go SARRC

It was a tale of two races for car 18 to start the 2013 season at Virginia International Raceway.  Still recovering from the horror story that was a blown engine at Roebling two weekends prior, Tim was determined to expel the demons and find redemption in his Firman RFR-1000.  Both drivers posted career best lap times on the way to a 2nd place finish for Tim and a 4th place finish for Richard.  A slick track during the Saturday qualifying session left the duo struggling to apply 185 horsepower and keep their cars under control.  The changes needed for the race were obvious:  more down force.  Sunday’s race offered the same cool, sunny conditions that are synonymous with the Goblins Go.  Tim and Richard qualified 3rd and 4th respectively, but had the advantage of inside positions on the starting grid.  Once the green flag was waived, the grid was three cars wide going into the kink on the front straight.  Tim made a move to the right to pass the car in front and Richard was already there; barely avoiding contact by taking two wheels off track.  Tim took the inside line into Turn 1 to gain a position and the class results would hold for the remainder of the race.

Oct 7, 2012 – Race Recap – SARRC Invitational Challenge – Area 81 Racing / Waterfall Team battles adversity and wins the SIC Invitational. Team finishes 2nd and 4th in 2012 SARRC Points Championship

Area 81 Racing proved they are a double threat for the F1000 SARRC Championship as the team triumphed in many ways at the Roebling Road SARRC Invitational Challenge.  The SIC Invitational Race brings the top points finishers for the SARRC Regional Championship for a no-holds-barred double points season finale.  Unfortunately, the weekend started with the # 18 car experienced engine trouble on the Friday test day.  The challenge of an engine replacement at the track looked daunting, but soon the team banded together and worked throughout the entire weekend to change Tim’s powerplant.  Meanwhile, settled into his Stohr F1000 after a season of racing, Richard returned to his favorite track and set the car on the Pole Position a full 3 seconds quicker than earlier this year.  On race day, cheers were heard all around the Area 81 paddock as Tim’s new motor fired just an hour or so before the race.  The field of 19 Formula cars took the Green flag in the late afternoon heat.  Despite slippery track conditions, Richard ran consistent laps to score the SIC win and achieve 2nd place in the SARRC Season Championship.  Meanwhile, Tim overcame many obstacles to finished 4th in the race and 4th in the SARRC Season Championship.
