Car 18 Makes an Unscheduled Appearance at the SARRC/MARRS Challenge at VIR

After a less than stellar showing due to cooling problems at the VIR Oak Tree Double National two weekends before, Waterfall/Area 81 Racing’s Tim Pierce made a surprise appearance with intentions of setting the record straight. Teaming up with Victor Seaber of Viper for support, the record was set straight and shattered. Car 18 was the buzz of both races due to exciting battles that resulted in two 2nd Place finishes. Although he set multiple personal lap records throughout the weekend, the Sunday lap times exceeded his previous best by two seconds.

April 20-21, 2013 – Area 81 Racing /Waterfall Team goes from Hard Luck to Hard Charger at VIR Oak Tree SCCA Major/USF1000

Spring is always a special time at Area 81 Racing’s home track VIRginia International Raceway. The air is crisp & cool and the VIR facility is a beautiful display of springtime color. It is easy to understand that VIR is referred to as “America’s Favorite Motorsport Resort “. Qualifying took place early Friday AM and Richard quickly turned his fastest lap ever.  Unfortunately, Tim discovered a cooling issue which would challenge him for the rest of the weekend. During the remaining Qualifying sessions, Car 81 helped monitor the coolant leaking from Car 18, while Tim kept an eye on his gauges. Saturday Race 1 resulted in Richard improving position to 5th place after a spirited drive, while Car 18 team diligently changed a head gasket. The whole Area 81 Racing team worked thru Saturday to insure Tim got back out on track for Sunday’s race. Visiting Sponsor – Frank Slightom of ElecMech/Briky Coolers was shown how Area 81 Racing can bounce back from adversity and finish strong in a field of 13 F1000 cars. For Sunday’s Race 2, both drivers improved from their positions to finish Richard 5th & Tim 7th, earning the team the Sunoco / USF1000 $ 150.00 Hard Charger award.

Tim Pierce and the Car 18 crew made the short drive to Kershaw SC to defend the FB track record, set less than 10 months ago at the Memorial Monster. The team felt right at home while taking Pole Position during Saturday qualifying and 1st in Class during the Saturday race (2nd overall). Sunday was more of the same, with Car 18 qualifying 2nd overall and finishing the race 1st overall and 1st in Class.

March 9-10th 2013, Circuit of the Americas – Austin, Texas – Race Recap

Area 81 Racing / Waterfall Team posts solid results at the Circuit of the Americas – Austin, Texas

The Area 81 Racing / Waterfall Security Solutions Team traveled over 2600 miles round trip to compete in the 1st ever SCCA race to take place at the new Formula 1 Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The team entered the BF Goodrich SCCA Majors/USF1000 Event with plenty of excitement and high expectations for the historic weekend. The F1 circuit itself did not disappoint, but the challenges of accomodating 500+ racers for the weekend proved a bit much for the organizers. The team posted solid results in Saturday Race 1 with Richard placing 11th and Tim 14th out of 19 cars in the shortened race. Sunday proved even more challenging for the organizers as a few cars spun and locked together, causing an extended yellow flag period. In the end, Richard placed 7th and Tim 11th officially.
